The Public Servant vs. The Comedian

Submitted by KingoftheHill on July 25, 2007 - 11:02pm.

Office

U.S. Senate
Senator Norm Coleman

Republican

Elected: 2002 (First Term)
Leadership Positions: Republican Deputy Whip
Percent in Last Election: 50% vs. Walter Mondale
Vitals: Coleman lives in St. Paul, MN with his wife, Laurie, and their two children

Offensive Line

 • Recently voted against the Senate Immigration Bill
 • Introduced the Broadcaster Freedom Act to thwart Democrat attempts to regulate conservative radio

 • Opposed the labor union bill eliminating secret elections

Defensive Line

With Minnesota leaning blue, it’s a miracle that such a strong
conservative is viable in this swing state. Senator Coleman has led the
charge for greater accountability in Washington and has been a strong
supporter of our troops in harms way.

Postgame Report

Liberal Actor Al Franken

Democrat

 • Host on liberal radio station Air America
 • Continually calls the Right “nutcases”
 • 82% of his fundraising has come from outside Minnesota – mostly from the Hollywood elite.

The Extra Point

Senator Coleman faces a tough reelection and needs your help. Despite his excellent work in serving the citizens of Minnesota in the U.S. Senate; being a Republican in Minnesota is becoming more and more rare. This, coupled with typical voter apathy, makes Senator Coleman one of our most vulnerable Senators. He needs to amass a large war chest and volunteers to help him get his message out to the voters and defend attacks from liberal 527 groups.

Player of the Week

Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (CO-4)

Last week, Rep. Musgrave helped lead the fight to control federal spending on the house floor by proposing a ½ percent decrease in the rate of growth of the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill. Click here to watch Rep. Musgrave fight for your tax dollars.

Challenger of the Week

Rick Goddard (R) vs. Rep. Jim Marshall (D) - GA-8

A retired Major General in the Air Force, Goddard has been serving his country and community for decades. Former commander of the local Airbase, he is already showing strong support across the 8th district, as shown by his ability to raise over $150,000 in less than a month of campaigning. Gen. Goddard will need all our help if he is going to beat Rep. Jim Marshall. Rep. Marshall does not support the values of the district and has consistently been able to beat challengers in this Republican leaning district. President Bush received 60% of the vote in this district in 2004 and there has never been a candidate the caliber of General Goddard. We need to send him and his no nonsense approach to solving problems in Washington.

www.goddardforcongress.com

Musgrave Stump Speech

Thanks to Sean for creating a Musgrave Stump Speech, http://www.bigredtent.org/node/97.

"Rep. Marilyn Musgrave has supported conservatives for the last four-plus years. Now we should take the opportunity to support her."

Thanks, Sean.

I urge our members to research Musgrave and comment at Sean's stump speech.

Staying Off the Goddard Bandwagon

Mac Collins was a great conservative during his time in Conress, and he's looking at another attempt at a comeback. He came close last year in a very bad environment, and if 2008 is any better I think he'll probably pull it out. He's my man if he gives it another go. If not, I'll be happy to back Goddard.

Collins doesn't have what it takes

Although Mac Collins did come close last year in a VERY bad environment, he is the past. He's lost for Senate and now lost for Congress. Although he was fairly conservative during his time in Congress, his accomplishments were few and far between. It's time for some fresh blood in GA-8.

General Election Fund?

I posted an entry in the Launch Community group that you might want to take a look at. It deals with getting involved in primaries like this.

I don't think it's presumptuous to say that both of us would support the winner of the GOP primary, be it Goddard or Collins, in the general election, and that we both recognize that winning Georgia 8 is critical to taking back the Majority. So rather than raise funds for the two to use against each other, how about creating a nominee fund? ActBlue does this and it ensures that the dollars go toward beating the opposition rather than each other.

Not a bad idea at all

Lets see if we can make it happen
