Come See Us at the Texas Republican Straw Poll

Submitted by Brad on August 30, 2007 - 5:19pm.

The Big Red Tent Team (i.e. Ryan and I) will be at the Texas Republican Straw Poll, live blogging the event Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. If you're going to be there, leave a comment in this post and let us know.

Will Ron Paul run away with it and win his home state's Straw Poll? Ryan thinks so, but we'll have to wait until Saturday to find out.

Check back with Big Red Tent this weekend for Texas Republican Straw Poll coverage!

Will Ron Paul Win the Texas Straw Poll?

Submitted by Gravatt on August 30, 2007 - 4:54pm.

The Ron Paul grassroots network is making extensive use of the Internet to drive straw poll delegates to Fort Worth this weekend. It could be the decisive factor in his favor.

Strategy Discussion

Submitted by Sean on July 29, 2007 - 5:52am.

As we get going, I think it's important that we have some discussion about where we stand and what we can reasonably hope to accomplish here. Toward that end, I wanted to throw out some ideas, not so much to dictate any kind of policy, but to start a discussion about where we are and how we can maximize our effectiveness over the next two years. In keeping with the vision of those who established the site, the point of this discussion is not to set hard and fast rules, but to attempt to reach some general consensus about how the community can maximize its effectiveness. I look forward to an active discussion in the comments about these points and any others that community members think may be important.

TX-23

Submitted by miapalmieri on July 19, 2007 - 5:42pm.

Despite Rodriguez’s eight percentage point victory, Larson contends the district - which stretches from San Antonio to El Paso - remains winnable for the GOP, especially with the concentration of votes in his North Side stronghold.

“It looks like it’s still a Republican district if you get the vote out,” said Larson, the lone Republican on the Commissioners Court. “This is one that was lost that never should’ve been lost to the Democratic Party.”

The 47-year-old Larson said he’ll meet with leaders in the 20-county district, gauge how much financial support he could get, and decide whether to run within eight months.

An Idea For Enabling Activism

Submitted by Sean on July 19, 2007 - 3:30am.

I have an idea that seems like it might fit with the theme of the site. I live in New York's 13th Congressional District. I have a safe Congressman and two safe Senators. I'd like to write letters to the editor to help Republicans/attack Democrats in competitive races, but there aren't any here.

Cornyn race articles from Dallas Morning News

Submitted by Gravatt on July 17, 2007 - 11:08pm.

Dallas Morning News on Monday gave Dem challenger Noriega a soapbox while barely mentioning Mikal Watts. In the same article, they also write up the launch of the statewide Republican effort Texas Victory 2008.

Building the Slate - A Community Action

Submitted by Gravatt on July 12, 2007 - 12:02am.

Big Red Tent is an effort to put the tools of the Internet into the hands of our grassroots members so each member can do the most good for the Republican candidate(s) of their choice.

The Big Red Tent community will build a slate of candidates through dialog, what we calling stumping, and voting. Users in our community will be able to contribute -- and raise -- money for all of the candidates on the Big Red Tent slate.

Running for

Get in the Tent

Submitted by Gravatt on June 30, 2007 - 4:58pm.

Big Red Tent is an effort to combine online activism with fund raising.

How can we do this?

First, we'd like to recruit Republicans of all stripes into the tent - especially folks who want to use the Internet to propel candidates and campaigns toward success.

Second, we want people in the tent community to organize. Folks with similar philosophies will have discussions about their candidates and their passions and we envision a community with lots of groups based upon one philosophy and groups based upon many shared philosophies.
